Een nieuwe start in een stille tijd
When the events sector came to a standstill due to COVID-19, Stef van Lierop decided to take his passion for wine and hospitality in a new direction. With experience in event management, wine tours, and wine education, the idea for his own wine brand was born.
The origins of Lierno
The first concept was Champa: a sparkling wine that helped people reflect on special moments. A symbol for turning moments into precious memories, especially at a time when connection was scarce. Champa turned out to be unavailable as a brand name, so it became Lierno. Derived from Stef's surname, van Lierop. Another twist: it can be pronounced in every country, is elegant, and means ambitious and progressive.
The first steps and challenges
Stock was built up, bottles filled — but sales remained limited to friends and family. It was a phase of learning and perseverance, laying the foundation for something bigger.
Breakthrough at Mercedes
The first real business breakthrough came when Mercedes-Benz purchased wines. Not just any wines, but personalized wines with their own logo printed directly on the bottle. This marked the beginning of a new concept: high-quality private label wine.
Collaboration with Rabobank Private Banking
An important milestone followed with Rabobank, which chose our private label wines as a promotional gift. It was confirmation that large, renowned organizations trusted us to translate their brand into quality and experience.
Expansion into the hospitality industry
The hospitality industry also discovered the power of private label. Restaurants such as De Gouden Leeuw in Sint-Oedenrode joined in. To this day, our wines are still served there — a sign of lasting relationships.
Growth of the product range
What began with Prosecco grew into a broad palette: Verdejo, Pinot Grigio, and even collaborations with wineries in Tuscany. With each new winery, the possibilities expanded.
Top-level private label
Through direct collaboration with wineries and our expertise in design and branding, Lierno has grown to become a specialist in private label wine. Always with a focus on quality, customization, and lasting memories.
A brand with international ambition
Today, we are stronger than ever. With our first customer in Belgium, a sleek online platform, and growing international interest, Lierno is ready to continue growing—from moments to memories, across borders.
From offline to offline and online
Whereas we used to operate solely offline, we now focus entirely on our online presence. With an integrated system and a newly designed website, customers can view their own wine designs directly online.
